Adding a member of the family

Before moving to MN John and I had discussed about getting a dog, mainly for Alexa. So once we got over to MN and settled a bit we started looking for a dog that would be PERFECT for our family. Well on May 10 we had a lady that works for Minnesota Animal Rescue and Services (otherwise known as MARS) come talk to us about different dogs that she thought would be a good choice for our family and to do our home visit (making sure we weren't starting a puppy mill).
We showed each other the dogs we found a decided on 2 of them. We made times to visit both of them the next day. When we visited Floyd we just knew that he was the one! He is a Beagle/ Dachshund mix and has been the greatest dog anyone could ever have. We love everything about him, well except 2 things. One- he sheds like crazy! Enough where we find his hair in everything! Two he will chew on leashes if he is tide to a post or stake and chew all the way through it and become free.
Floyd sleeps in Alexa's bed every night since we got him (by his choice) and if we start tickling Alexa too much according to him he starts to whine, bark a little, and do a baby growl at us. He even lets Alexa sleep on him as a pillow. We try to take him everywhere we can but otherwise he does great uncreated at home.
